The Sky Village is the first novel in the Kaimira series and has much promise, despite the fact it was published in 2008 and we’re still waiting on the next in the series, supposedly entitled The Terrible Everything. It follows the path of two thirteen-year-olds, Mei and Rom, who live on opposites side of a post-apocalyptic world after wars between humans, beasts and meks destroyed all that we know today. They’re connected through the Tree Book and at first they think each other are just characters from bedtime stories, however they quickly become imbedded in each others worlds while they struggle to deal with the hands that have been dealt them.
I’m a huge fan of floating cities and the sky village in this novel has a real vibrancy. The pace seems a little slow at times, but I enjoyed the meta-narratives, and the characters perspectives of each other offered an interesting twist.
